The image here is of two neutron stars colliding, billions of years ago and many billions of kilometres from earth. The massive force of the collision compresses matter and creates debris of heavy metals, gold, silver, platinum that is hurled into space. Eventually, some of the debris is caught in the swirling gravitational pull of matter when the earth was formed 4.5 billion years ago. Eventually, we find these deposits of heavy metals that originated from the neutron stars' collision so long ago and so far away and turn the metal into the jewelry we love to wear.
